Sandcastle 1 Small 2The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce will host the 35th Annual Sandcastle Contest on Saturday, August 3.  More than 100 teams are expected to show off their sculpting skills and imagination. 

The contest will be held at Fisherman's Beach, just to the North of the Rehoboth Boardwalk, with registration beginning at 8:30am, and the closing whistle to be blown at 3:00pm.  Event judges and spectators alike will then be welcomed into the sculpting zone where they can "ooh" and "aah," free of charge.  Winners of the sandcastle contest will be announced around 5:00pm, with prizes awarded to the top 10 Judge's Favorites in both the adult and 7-14 child divisions.

One Judge's Favorite will be awarded in the business category, and special prizes given in the 6 & under child's division. Two People's Choice Awards will also be distributed, with the public choosing one adult and one child winner. Something new is being added to the event this year!  Sand sculpting artist Darrell O'Connor will be offering sculpting demonstrations and lessons on the beach at Rehoboth Ave. and the Boardwalk on Friday, from 5-7pm.  O'Connor will also supervise work on a community sculpture beginning at10am SaturdaSandcastle Dog Smally. Members of the public will have the opportunity to assist O'Connor, two volunteers at a time, on a rotating basis.
